I would like to thank all who helped us celebrate our 125th Anniversary.  We are grateful for all the planning and help from those who made the event such a success. Thousands of people were in town over the weekend to witness the presentations and honor the traveling Vietnam Wall.

With the large attendance at the street dance, many people requested to have it again, so The Roosters are booked for the 2009 Meet Your Neighbor Day, June 27th.

Argyle continues to grow with new housing and remodeling taking place and being planned.  We also have free residential lots and incentives for home construction and home purchase.  The Argyle Historical Society is planning an addition this summer, which will be an improvement to their building.

Stephen/Argyle Central will have a new playground set this summer, and the old set is being donated to the city.  The city is also working with an engineering firm on future improvements to Argyle.

Sincerely,
Bob Clausen
Mayor

          COMMENTS FROM...THE ARGYLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPER

Wow, what a year 2008 was for the City of Argyle.  Many hours of planning, fundraising, and preparation went into the 125th celebration.  Many people spent a lot of their time volunteering in many ways to provide an excellent week of activities for the approximately 8,000 people attending the celebration.  It truly was "The Best of Towns, The Best of Times".  I would be remiss if I did not mention names.

Judy and Tom Yutrzenka as co-presidents of the Argyle Community Club did a wonderful job in so many ways.  Phyllis Pawlowski and Drew Olafson (Great mud volleyball, also) as the main money controllers, treasurer position, kept all of the funds straight.  Melanie Nelson kept the process moving as the secretary and parade committee member, and Darrel Nelson provided help every step of the way, especially with The Roosters' dance.  Merlyn Haugen, Wayne Bergeron, Earl Riopelle, Ken LaBine, and the Argyle American Legion and Auxiliary were excellent in planning and implementing The Wall activities.  Mary Efta and the Junior Auxiliary complimented and added to the celebrations at The Wall.  Carol (Donarski) Michalek (the breakfast too) and Carol Stoltman planned the perfect Argyle Idol competition.  Ed Heggen, as the parade committee chair, once again provided our celebration with an excellent parade despite the wind, rain, and chill in the air.  Aime and Joann Dufault (nice 5K coordination, also), Mick (great auctioneer, too) and Leesa Rapacz, and Scott Solum were perfect choices to head up the wine committee ( and do most of the bottling coordination).  Charlie LaBine, Rosemary Schiller, and the rest of the Historical Society member s provided a great place to eat, rest, and buy souvenirs in the Depot Museum.  Janet LaBine suggested the Old Tyme Band, and they were very good and enjoyed by many.  Mayor Bob Clausen and city council members were wonderful in allowing the city crew and staff the flexibility in providing necessary help to the community club, such as Vicki and Tamara handling the shirt and crock presale orders.  The Argyle Garden Club made our town look just wonderful with their beautiful gardens and planters.  Richard and Lorraine Deschene kept the hanging flower baskets watered to perfection.  And, Roger Lehrman produced the most gorgeous flower arrangements for The Wall and the hanging baskets.  The Argyle Lions helped move things around town and helped at The Wall.  The Argyle Firemen supplied nice cold, water, manpower to hand out the airplane drop money when the event was altered, and helped at The Wall.  Cecil Deschene let us use his building which was a perfect headquarters.  Paul and Janet St. Germain helped with The Wall, the clothing ordering, the Nickel Scramble, the Style Show, and probably more.  Connie Lubarski and Merle Adolphson once again coordinated a successful Olympics.  Terry Nowacki, Jerry Whitlow, and Dwaine Adolphson brought the old west to town with their horses.  Jill Adolphson and Karen Michalski and their committee members planned and carried out a very successful Wedding Dress Style Show and tea.  Mike St. Germain's idea of having a sanctioned pedal pull was a big success.  jay Swanson did a very good job getting the antique car show organized.  Heidi Thorstenson and the cheerleaders waited an extra day to have the dunking booth because of the cold, but they did it on Sunday.  Sheree Setterholm and Yvonne Kroll did a wonderful job with the cold, wet, and windy Kiddy Parade.  The school was just great with allowing The Wall on the football field, the All-School Reunion program and RentErtainment games in the new gym, the Argyle Idol Contest and pedal pull in the old gym, the all-school self tours and a few guided tours, the showers, and Melinda's help.  The All-School Reunion Committee did a great job.  Also, all who donated money for the celebration need to be congratulated.  The Argyle Area Community Foundation was very financially instrumental to the community Club for the celebration and the Argyle American Legion for the bringing of The Wall to Argyle.  The Argyle businesses helped in many ways.   I know that I have left out important people with so many helping, how could I not?  I apologize, but know that you were very valuable.

Six houses were sold in Argyle in 2008.  One new house is being built.  Six business transactions have occurred.  Believe me, Argyle always seems to make progress.

If you are interested in starting a business or moving to Argyle, call the City Office at 218-437-6621 for information on incentives, house availability, lot availability, or any other questions.

Sincerely,

Colleen Radeke
Economic Developer
