What makes a
small town tick? It is the people that have put in their
time, talent and energy. Since we are an agricultural
based economy, we take pride and thank the farmers and all
people involved with the farming industry. We also are
thankful for school staff and our educational system, our many
coaches and directors who provide leadership for all our
extracurricular activities, and our many service clubs and
organizations and the churches that sponsor and have many
functions for our children and adults to enjoy.
I need to give
a huge thank you to all the people that helped finish the Argyle
Historical Depot Museum addition and the playground and soccer
unit at the school.
Congratulations
to our new councilman, David Gunderson, and the re-election of
Roger Lehrman. Our thanks goes out to Rick Neuschwander
and his years of service on the city council and Melanie Nelson
for the interim.
The City of
Argyle is undertaking a major water and sewer construction
project. The nearly three million dollar project is 60%
complete at this time and final completion date is set for
August 15, 2011. $2.3 million is to be financed through
the USDA and a grant of $600,000 from Rural Development. I
know our streets will be an inconvenience for the spring and
summer, but having a reliable water and sewer system for years
to come will be beneficial to all.
Wiktel has
almost completed installing their high speed internet and fiber
optic cable system for the residents of Argyle.
On behalf of
the City of Argyle, I would like to invite everyone to visit our
community and attend our annual "Meet Your Neighbor Day"
festivities held on the weekend of June 25, 2011.
Sincerely,
Bob Clausen
Mayor

COMMENTS FROM...THE
ARGYLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPER
The cover of this year's newspaper
was a fun one to put together. History repeating itself in
such a unique way for a small town was fun to research.
Darlene (Erickson) Stoner lives in
Modesto, CA, and Donna Erickson lives in Antioch, CA.
Derell was living in Texas at the time of his death. Tom
and Ted Yutrzenka were born in Duluth, MN, and moved to Argyle
when they were 3 or 4 years old. Tom and Ted both live in
Argyle. Bonnye (Carlson) Sorenson and Barbara (Carlson)
Spicer were born in St. Petersburg, FL, and moved to Argyle when
they were 8 months old. Bonnye lives in Argyle.
Barbara lives in Grand Forks, ND. They all enjoyed their
Class of 1955 reunion during Meet Your Neighbor Day 2010.
Jace, Kory, and Liam McMahon were
born the Tuesday after our 2010 Meet Your Neighbor Day weekend
and live in Argyle. Danica and Ryan Swanson moved from
Moorhead and now live in Argyle. Liam and Luke Kasprowicz
live in rural Stephen.
I have been very busy writing grants
for the Argyle Historical Society and the City of Argyle.
I have been writing grants for the Save the Bridge project.
I have spoken with Senator Stumpf about funding for projects
that the City of Argyle needs to address. But, like our
economy, money sources are tight.
We are so lucky in Argyle to have
the commercial and industrial businesses that are located here.
I encourage shopping locally with our merchants. There is
nothing like hometown service.
Many area residents have enjoyed the
fruits of Jerry Hapka's truck farm labor. Don't forget to
look for Jerry's strawberry and other fruit and vegetable ads
this summer. He had to create waiting lists for his
excellent pick-your-own strawberries last year!
The Argyle Rural Economic
Development Authority and the City of Argyle welcome the new
home owners, new business, and are pleased to see the business
transactions occurring.
Sincerely,
Colleen Radeke
Economic Developer
